Immediately after the meeting with Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the researchers of the “Chess” Scientific Research Institute, in parallel with the current research activities, continued to work in 3 main directions:

  1. Development of Terms of Reference (TOR) for international level data collection process;
  2. Development and testing of the international Training Program for Trainers (TOT);
  3. Re-edition of the 2nd grade chess textbook.

1․ The TOR developed by the first group,  make it is possible to study the current state of chess education in the world, targeting the areas highlighted in the FIDE strategic plan for chess in education. The aim of the research is “To discover the peculiarities of chess education in different countries of the world and to nominate successful educational model(s)“. It is envisaged that the research will be conducted with the involvement of national chess federations, if necessary, also the educational state authorities of the countries and national organizations involved in the field of chess education.

2․ The second group continues working on a very important international project aimed at creating a Training for Trainers (TOT) program for all countries around the world. The objective of the program is to develop and enhance effective chess basics teaching skills by using active and interactive teaching methods, digital tools and positive professional communication skills.

By the help of this TOT program, a group of trainers will be trained in different countries of the world, who in turn will train chess teachers, who will have the opportunity to teach chess in schools and other educational institutions in future.

Within the framework of this program, two three-day trainings have already been conducted in Armenia.

3․ The third group, working on the content of the 2nd grade chess textbook and exercise book, taking into account the age characteristics of the primary schoolchildren, the research conducted by the group of sociologists of “Chess” Scientific Research Institute, made certain changes in the 2nd grade chess textbook and exercise book. The changes are aimed at presenting the educational material in a simpler, more accessible  way for primary schoolchildren, in accordance with their age peculiarities. Chess methodologists, psychologists, teachers of primary schools, and teachers with the best chess teaching experience have worked on this educational material.
